With NAAC Grade B in First cycle (2015) SSLNT College has proved its existence and good reasons for its popularity among the students and aspirants of higher education in this part of country. The College is not only popular in Jharkhand but also in adjoining districts of West Bengal. Established in 1955, the college is committed to its vison and through mission mode it is sculpturing human beings for the nation. Alumni of this institution are making their presence globally and have put the college on global map. This is possible only due to the dedicated and committed faculty members of the college. In the pursuit of excellence, college Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) is making new targets and meeting to the standards of quality in higher education. All planning for academics and its improvement and excellence are being designed and developed by the IQAC. The decisions taken by the IQAC in the last five academic sessions have improved the ambience in which some are like shifting towards digitization and computerization of academics and administration. In year (2023) the college celebrated glorious 68th years of establishment on the theme of “Tribal Culture and Tradition”. College is proud to record that all registered students are insured for rupees two lacs (an accidental insurance) from the Academic session 2020-21 for a meagre charge of rupees six per month.
Number of academic and co-curricular and extracurricular activities are going to be organised though out the year. In this series in the beginning of the year the college had an Academic Audit by the experts of higher education. During first and second wave of COVID -19 pandemic the college stood as hard rock and delivered the best through its existing ICT and contemporary education technology to SSLNT college students and others. The Flipped/Hybrid/Blended education technology used from 2020 to 21 was a considerable success. The college has developed a state-of-the-art 6 classrooms for this purpose & six more classrooms are being prepared. College has their own state-of-the-art auditorium with interactive panel for presentation , conferences and for cultural and various type of activities. College has introduced new vocational course from the year 2021 certificate course in Foreign Languages – French
The Central Library of the college has 54000 books (Text and Reference ) facilitate to all regular as well as learners of distance education. Library has increased its functional hours and is equipped with ICT facilities, air conditioned reading room, computers with internet and Wi-Fi connectivity for students and faculty members along with physical books reading facilities have made the library a class apart. The INFLIBNET service and N-LIST makes available about. To improve footfall in the college library, a plan has been introduced as library hours in the class routine to make it a part of regular curricula. The departmental libraries are being maintained by the respective departments and are rich enough to cater to the needs of the teachers for their requirements. An initiative has been taken for students’ participatory management of Library. This will mitigate human resource crunch for the management of the library. Under this scheme a few students of each department will be encouraged to manage and maintain the departmental library and for that they will be paid a token amount – Earn while learn scheme, and finally will be awarded a certificate and marks in the internal examinations. Seminars, conferences, and workshops are regular features of the college to develop the overall personality of the students to make them fit for the real world.
Swayam Prabha channel is running in the college.Student of this college are laborious and smart, and they have proved themselves while qualifying at various examinations of National and International levels. They have excelled not only in academics but have been excellent in the field of cultural activities and sports. MoU with Learnet ,Mahindra Pride ,TCS programme to prepare students for competitive examinations. College Placement Cell and Career and Counselling Cells are active to promote placement of the students. College has developed one incubation center for this MoA with Soluinno Pvt. Ltd.
The web portal of the college has student portal facility which has educational tutorial video links and old question papers.
To cope with the faculty shortage, the college has created a consortium of faculty members pooling faculty from nearby colleges. The college has geared up for National Education Policy 2020 (NEP2020) skill development oriented courses are going on as per the need of current education like Beauty and Wellness , Fashion Designing (Mukhya Mantri Sarthi Yojna) IT/ITes sector Customer Care Executive Voice. Four Years Integrated B.Ed. in arts and science is in pipe line, where as the certificate course in Amanat will be introduced. College is planned to have a good placement cell for students and is frequently organising placement drive for students with various companies to have a regular visit for employment.
An incubation center started in the year 2021 and a skill development centre have been started from this year i.e. 2024. Cultural activities social and of the college have been widely accepted by the society and students have earned laurels on different national forum.
NCC and NSS have made their presence during the covid and served the society during the global crisis. Sports are suspended due to COVID -19 pandemic. After 2022 shortly the college organised its annual sports activities after Government permission to do so in the new year.
